Scenario Notes:

I created this scenario in an effort to recreate the initial naval
battle which occured at Guadalcanal in 1942. During the US landings
the Japanese sent a cruiser group down the slot and into Iron Bottom
sound with the intention of wiping out the US landing force. An
inferior Japanese force decimated a superior Allied covering force.
The tactical victory went to the Japanese. The strategic victory
however went to the Allies as the Japs never got close enough to cause
any damage to the amphibs and the invasion of Guadalcanal was a
success.

Unfortunately for my intentions modern weaponry renders the above
situation null, I could not recreate the feel of The Slot. However,
as it turns out, the scenario worked out well as a weapons management
training aid. I discovered (this is true from either side) that just
blasting away with missiles is not a terribly good idea. The number
of missiles fired, when fired and at what targets they are fired at is
critical (especially in vs 1.3X) if they are to be effective.

Another benefit of this scenario is that it is very likely that the US
player will need to use guns to achieve any kind of victory (gun use
doesn't happen often). In fact I can guarantee that if the US player
doesn't manage his/her missile inventory he/she will have to use guns
to win (which is kind'a neat, cause you just pick a target and the AI
just keeps on firing until the target is destroyed or you turn 'em
off). The Soviet player will probably not get an opportunity to use
guns if weapons are appropriately managed.

I have played this scenario from both sides numerous times and used
the tactics I learned in other scenarios to good effect. Experience
is the best teacher so I will not pass on what I learned (besides if I
did you could never lose as the human player).

Enjoy.
